PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor having a template matching function for searching an object from an image or performing positioning. SOLUTION: This image processor is provided with a means for performing hierarchical template matching and a means for determining a template selection method. By this determining means, it is determined whether selection of a template in each hierarchical level is carried out in a method by which a plurality of template components consisting of n pixels (n means a previously set integer larger than 1 and smaller than N) are sequentially generated from an original template image consisting of N pixels (N means an optional number) serving as a base of formation of the template and used as template possibles, a degree of a good condition of the template possible as the template is computed, a template possible giving the best condition is selected, and the selected template possible is stored to be used as the template.
