PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reproduced image with high sharpness by detecting stimulated emission light corresponding to the radiation energy of a wide dynamic range and also to erase almost completely radiation energy remaining on a phosphor sheet with irradiation of appropriate quantity of erase light after irradiating excitation light in a radiograph reading method and device using a line sensor. SOLUTION: An excitation light source 11 emits excitation light of a plurality of quantities of different power to a phosphor sheet 1 while a scan belt moves the phosphor sheet 1 in a Y direction only by a distance for one pixel, and a reading means 30 reads an output of the line sensor 17 in each part irradiated with the excitation light of respective power. Also, erase light is emitted to the phosphor sheet 1 with the quantity of light of irradiation controlled on the basis of the output of the line sensor 17 read from the part irradiated with the excitation light of power with which accumulation is not saturated, and an image remaining on the phosphor sheet 1 is thereby eliminated.
