PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable white shading data in an image-reading apparatus having a white roller where one portion of an outer periphery surface becomes a reading surface for white shading. SOLUTION: When a contamination detection means detects that the contamination on the reading surface for white shading that is set onto the outer periphery surface of the white roller exceeds a tolerance (S8), a region that is less contaminated than a reading surface-setting means for white shading is set as a new reading surface for white shading (S13-S22).
