PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a one-component aqueous coating material resin composition which is easily curable independently of the coating environment. SOLUTION: This aqueous coating material resin composition comprises (I) a copolymer obtained by the emulsion polymerization of (a) 1-30 wt.% ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a maleimide group, (b) 1-30 wt.% ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a carbonyl group, (c) 0.01-2 wt.% compound having at least two polymerizable unsaturated groups per molecule, and 38-97.99 wt.% other ethylenicaly unsaturated monomers; and (II) a compound having two or more same or different functional groups per molecule selected from a hydrazide group, a semicarbazide group, and a hydrazone group.
