PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aliphatic primary amine- alkylene oxide adduct of high purity, hardly colored, having a narrow polyalkylene oxide chain length distribution, stable for a long period and containing a little amount of a volatile component. SOLUTION: One mole of a 1-24C aliphatic primary amine is reacted with at least 1.8 and less than 2 moles of a 2-4C alkylene oxide at 125-135 deg.C and further with the residual alkylene oxide at 70-100 deg.C to give an aliphatic primary amine-alkylene oxide adduct having a number of moles of an added alkylene oxide of 3-70.
