PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently suck a sheet, to smoothly convey the sheet, and to achieve good printing result in a printer such as an inkjet printer. SOLUTION: This sheet sucking mechanism comprises a sucking plate in which the sheet is placed on one face of the plate and a sucking means provided on the other face of the attracting plate. In the sucking plate, recessed and projected sections are formed on one face of a plate body. The recessed sections are constituted such that a plurality of first grooves extended in a first direction and a plurality of second grooves extended in a second direction different from the first direction are connected with each other at positions corresponding to intersections between the first grooves and the second grooves. Holes each being opened to the bottom face and the other face of the recessed section are provided at the positions corresponding to the intersections between the first grooves and the second grooves.
