Compositions comprising ( )-2-((dimethylamino)methyl)cyclohexanone, a transition-metal salt, and an organic solvent and methods of preparing ( )-cis-2-((dimethylamino)methyl)-1-(aryl)cyclohexanols, in particular ( )-cis-2-((dimethylamino)methyl)-1-(3-methoxyphenyl)cyclohexanol, are disclosed herein.
