A hand operated tool, Fig. 2 (not shown), for embossing strip 14 having a liner covering a layer of adhesive on the strip comprises a blade 23 for severing the strip and liner, and a blade 24 for severing only the strip, the blades severing the strip and liner against a stepped anvil 38 one level of which co-operates with the blade 23 while the other co-operates with blade 24. The severed strip thus has a separate tab attached to the liner and by means of which the liner may be stripped off the strip. Carried by an upper limb 12 of the tool are a set of dies 18 and a plunger 19 for operating the selected dies when the upper and a lower limb 13 are pivoted together. An adjustable abutment 43 carried by limb 13 transmits an operating force to the plunger 19 (Fig. 2) or to the anvil 38, Fig. 3 (not shown). When the limbs 12, 13 are partly closed, Fig. 6 (not shown), the end of plunger 19 prevents the abutment 38 from being with. drawn by its spring 44. A further spring 47 connects the abutment 38 to a pawl 22 which it withdraws from a ratchet wheel 21 when the abutment is beneath the anvil 38, thus freeing a feed roller for operation by a knob 31. A roll 17 of the strip is housed in a magazine 16 pivoted on the limb 12. |
