PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a thermoset coating film which is hard to cause sagging in coating automobiles, bicycles, and the like, and simultaneously, can obtain a smooth coating surface. SOLUTION: This method for forming the thermoset coating film comprises coating a coating material composition comprising (A) a compound having two or more alkoxysilyl groups per molecule, (B) a thermosetting resin composition, (C) a photoacid generator, and (D) an organic solvent at a solid content weight ratio of the compound (A) to the thermosetting resin composition (B) of 0.5/99.5 to 20/80 with 0.1-10 pts.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. compound (A), photoacid generator (C) on a substance to be coated, then irradiating the coating liquid with light to thicken the coating liquid, and subsequently heating and curing the resulting coating liquid.
