<p>A self-closing system for a screen door (12) that slides in a doorway includes an elongated tube (34) for attachment to the rear stile (20) of the sliding door (12) in a substantially vertical orientation. A housing (36) that contains an internal pulley (60) is attached to the top end of the tube (34). A cable (38) is provided having a first end for attachment to the front jamb of the doorway. From the doorway, the cable (38) extends into the housing (36) and runs around the pulley (60). From the pulley (60), the cable (38) exits the housing (36) and extends into the tube (34) where the second end of the cable (38) is connected to a weight (74). The weight (74) is movable within the tube (34) to maintain a constant tension on the cable (38). The cable tension, in turn, applies a force on the pulley (60) and housing. This force acts to bias the sliding door (12) into a closed position.</p> |
