Refurbishment of fuel rod bundles from which the head has been removed and the tops of the rod guide tubes distorted involves fitting a locking plate with apertures (28) which have a wider section (29) and a narrower, locking section (30). The plate is lowered on to the bundle, so that the tubes pass through the wider sections, and is rotated to lock it in place. A new head is then fitted.
