Membrane reactor contains an open-pored membrane (16) whose pores contain a reactive component. Independent claims are included for; (a) a method for making the reactor by modifying an open-pored membrane with a reactive component; and (b) apparatus for making the reactor comprising a treatment chamber (12), in which the membrane is placed. The membrane divides it into a chamber containing a suspension (32) of reactive component and a drain section (26) for exhausted liquid.
