PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide efficient and stabilized method and apparatus for determining the reaction of a gas phase or vapor phase substrate by monitoring an analyte through use of an electrochemical cell. SOLUTION: A gas phase or vapor phase analyte is identified under a state where a bioreceptor or a biological function imitator is held on an electrode support. The electrode support preferably comprises a solid phase or a gel matrix of electrolyte, more specifically an organic salt electrolyte. This electrochemical examination method has several excellent advantages as compared with a conventional method employing a solution monitor. For example, a gas sensor for monitoring an analyte through reaction on a bioreceptor or a biological function imitator is obtained and presence of a poison caused by inhibition of reaction on the bioreceptor or biological function imitator can be monitored. Furthermore, a gas phase or vapor phase analyte can be monitored by means of a sensor with high sensitivity at a high rate. The invention also relates to a novel medium performing bioelectrochemical reaction. |
