PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the production method of a quaternary ammonium hydroxycarboxylic acid salt, a mixture of quaternary ammonium hydroxycarboxylic acid salts having different ammonium ions, a quaternary ammonium inorganic acid salt and a mixture of the quaternary ammonium inorganic acid salts having different quaternary ammonium ions. SOLUTION: A tertiary amine is subjected to quaternarization with a hydroxycarboxylic acid ester represented by general formula (1) to give a quaternary ammonium hydroxycarboxylic acid salt, for example, triethylmethylammonium 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid salt and so on. Quaternary ammonium hydroxycarboxylic acid salt or the mixture thereof is reacted with an inorganic acid to give a quaternary ammonium inorganic acid salt or the mixture thereof.
