PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder whose throughput is improved. SOLUTION: The image recorder 10 is provided with five imaging parts 46A-46E arranged in parallel along a transfer direction. Recording papers 18 of sheets in a predetermined size are sorted and supplied from a supply 12 to the imaging parts 46A-46E. At this time, the transfer of the recording paper 18 is temporarily stopped at an entrance buffer 32 in each imaging unit and kept waiting until a preceding recording paper 18 is discharged out of an exit buffer 36. After the recording paper 18 is discharged from the exit buffer 36, images are recorded by an ink jet recording part 34. A process of recording images is carried out in parallel at the plurality of imaging parts 46A-46E, and at the same time, the recording paper is transferred to the entrance buffer 32 at a higher speed than an image recording speed. The throughput can be improved accordingly.
