<p>A method for preparing a separator for a fuel cell, which comprises forming, on a surface of a stainless steel plate, a layer of a metal element capable of reacting with gold to produce an intermetallic compound, coating the surface of the metal element layer with gold, and then heating the whole of the steel and the layers to form a layer of the intermetallic compound at the interface between the stainless steel plate and a coating layer of gold. The stainless steel separator prepared by the method has a gold coating (plating) layer imparting an extremely high corrosion resistance which has been prevented from being delaminated, and thus exhibits satisfactorily long term durability.</p> |
