MATERIAL FOR PHOTO-ALIGNMENT LAYER, PHOTO-ALIGNMENT LAYER AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photo-alignment layer for a liquid crystal display element having high solubility for a solvent in application, further exhibiting an excellent liquid crystal aligning property, at the same time obtaining a sufficiently large pretilet angle of liquid crystal molecules and further having sufficient stability of the pretilt angle in heating and in a lapse of time. SOLUTION: A material for the photo-alignment layer contains a monomer (a) having at least a photo-aligning group expressing a photo-aligning function after undergoing a photo-dimerization reaction and at least two polymerizable maleimide groups in a molecule and a monomer (b) having a 4-30C alkyl group and one or two maleimide groups in a molecule but having no photo-aligning group. The photo-alignment layer, the method for manufacturing the same and the liquid crystal display element using the same are related thereto.
