A device for moving a heavy article having a load reducing mechanism for positioning an article to be supported such as a work, comprising a wedge-shaped first block having an inclined surface on an upper side, an inverse wedge-shaped second block having an inclined surface slidably in contact with the inclined surface of the first block, a third block slidably placed on the second block to support the article to be supported, and a load supporting means for supporting the third block upwardly with a predetermined pushing force from a base body with the first block placed thereon. The third block moved by the load supporting means with a load-reduced condition is supported by the second block.
