A chair intended for an automotive vehicle, a watercraft, or a boat, wherein the chair has an associated safety belt (10) and includes a seat (2) that has a front part (21) and a rear part (22), said rear part being lowerable relative to the front seat part (21). The chair also includes an acceleration detector (50) and means (41, 42) for causing the rear part of the seat (22) to be lowered rapidly relative to the front seat part (21). The detector (50) functions to activate said means (41, 42) upon detection of a predetermined acceleration force.
