A banknote handling device capable of positioning and stopping a banknote at a constant position as accurately as possible without jamming of any banknote. A projection (32) is disposed so as to curve a side of the banknote carried in a slit (9) and the radius of curvature of a curved portion is gradually increased as the banknote (B) is carried toward the downstream side in the slit (9).
