PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-base pigment ink for ink jet recording, which can reduce feathering and bleeding, and a method for ink jet recording by using the ink. SOLUTION: The water-base pigment ink for ink jet recording contains a self-dispersible pigment dispersion, a water-soluble organic solvent, and at least one glycol ether selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol propyl ether, diethylene glycol propyl ether, triethylene glycol propyl ether, propylene glycol propyl ether, dipropylene glycol propyl ether, and tripropylene glycol propyl ether, wherein the rate of migration Rf of the self-dispersible pigment is 0.5 or lower when the self-dispersible pigment dispersion is developed with the mixed liquid of the ink constituents excluding the self-dispersible pigment dispersion by paper chromatography. |
