PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple structure of an abutment, which brings about a reduction in back earth pressure or prevents the action of the back earth pressure. SOLUTION: A coupling part 4 is provided slantingly between the side of an earth work section S of a superstructure work part 2 and a lower part of an abutment part 3, so that the abutment 1 can wholly take on a rigid-framed structure. In the coupling part 4, the side of a coupling to the work part 2 is inclined to the side of the section S. The coupling part 4 brings a lower part of fill on the backside of the abutment 1 into a stable state in which the lower part is inclined to the side of a bridge section B. Accordingly, the earth pressure, which is exerted on the abutment 1, can be reduced or prevented from acting. The rigid-framed structure of the abutment 1 can enhance the strength and rigidity of the whole abutment 1. In addition, a simple constitution brings about economy.
