PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal element exhibiting a high-order parameter. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal composition comprises at least one kind of azo compound represented by the following general formulas (1) to (3) (wherein, A denotes an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or an acyloxy group; B denotes hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, amino group, an acylamino group, an alkyl or an arylsulfonylamino group, hydroxy group, an alkoxy group, an acyloxy group or an alkoxycarbonyl group; Q<1> and Q<2> denote each independently a bivalent aromatic ring or cyclohexanediyl group; L denotes a bivalent acyclic connecting group (except azo group); Ar<1> and Ar<2> denote each independently a bivalent aromatic ring group; m<1> denotes 0 or 1; and n denotes 1 or 2). The liquid crystal element comprises the liquid crystal composition.
