PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polyhydroxyalkanoate having a functional substituent comprising a methylsulfanyl group introduced into the aromatic ring part of a phenoxy group, and its production process. SOLUTION: The polyhydroxyalkanoate is characterized in that it contains units represented by general formula (1) (wherein x is an arbitrary integer selected from 1 to 8, and may comprise one or more values) in the polymer molecule.
