PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkoxyamine having a specific structure which is high in polymerization rate and short in polymerization time and also provide a simple production method therefor. SOLUTION: The alkoxyamine which characteristically has a carboxyl group represented by formula (1) (wherein, R<1> is a 1-12C straight or branched chain alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene group; R<2> is a 1-11C straight chain or branched alkyl group, aryl group which may have a 1-5C straight chain or branched alkyl group as its side chain or R<3> O group (wherein, R<3> is a 1-12C straight chain or branched alkyl group or a cycloalkyl which may have a 1-5C straight chain or branched alkyl group as its side chain); and when adjacent carbonyl groups are directly bonded with each other, R<1> does not exist and accordingly 1,2-diketone structure is formed).
