PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for drying and reducing the volume of refuse making it possible to easily and safely take a bucket out of a heating chamber by cooling the heating chamber after finishing the process of drying and reducing the volume of refuse. SOLUTION: The device includes the bottomed, cylindrical heating chamber 1; the bucket 5 which is bottomed and cylindrical so as to be able to contain the refuse to be processed and which is detachably contained in the heating chamber 1; a lid 7 for closing an opening in the heating chamber 1; a heating means 2 for heating the inside of the heating chamber 1; a pressure reducing means 8 for reducing pressure within the heating chamber 1; and a water supply means 9 for supplying water into the heating chamber 1.
