PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which improves the efficiency of effective reflected light to realize bright reflection display and attains a gray shades display and improves the precision of the gray shades display and improves the contrast and improves durability for repeated display and increases the response speed and improves shape controllability for gel production. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with a light-transmissive display side substrate 1, a transparent electrode 2 arranged in close contact with the substrate 1, a non-display side substrate 5 which has a lower electrode 4 arranged in a position facing the transparent electrode, and at least a color liquid 9 and a color gel 3 which is swollen/contracted or bent in accordance with an electric field, between both substrates, and deformation of the color gel by an electric field is utilized, and incident light 6 is controlled and emitted to perform display. A light reflection layer 11 is provided in the lower part. In this constitution, forward scattering components 8 essentially causing the light loss can be returned to the surface of the display side substrate 1 as reflected light 10 by the reflecting function of the light reflection layer 11, and thus brighter display is realized.
