METHOD FOR PROCESSING OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing an optical fiber preform without adhesion of impurities nor generation of scars on the surface of the optical fiber preform when processing the optical fiber preform by flame. SOLUTION: The method for processing the optical fiber preform by flame, which comprises pressing a processing iron on the optical fiber preform while being rotated around the axis of the preform and while spraying flame with a gas burner, is characterized in that an iron, whose surface to which the preform gets in contact with is made of a carbon material, is used and that the contact time during which the iron is in contact with the preform is less than one minute per one contact for flame processing.
