PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which usually shortens a discharge tray so as to reduce its floor space as needed and extends the discharge tray only when a large-sized printing medium is used so that even the large-sized printing medium may be reliably held in the discharge tray. SOLUTION: The printer which may print a print image on printing media of different sizes comprises a printing medium loading part for holding printing media of plural kinds and different sizes, a size designating means for designating the size of the printing medium, a printing medium conveying part for feeding the printing medium of designated size to a printing unit, the printing unit, a printing medium discharge part for discharging the printed printing medium to the discharge tray, and a tray length adjusting apparatus for automatically expanding/shortening the length of the discharge tray according to the size of the longest printing medium among the printing media of different sizes discharged from the printing medium discharge part.
