PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for inspecting a cam lobe capable of considering the effects of inner diameter working before it is worked for shaft assembly. SOLUTION: In the method, contact points between the cam lobe in working and a chuck of a machine A1, A2, B1, and B2 are calculated, based on both a measured profile 10 obtained by measuring the shape of the cam lobe before its working inner diameter is processed and the data of the chuck's shape 12a, 12b. And then a working center of the inner diameter working, i.e. the position of a predicted inner diameter center O' after working, is calculated based on these contact point data. Also the position of a designed inner diameter center O is calculated when a designed shape of the cam lobe is adjusted so as to be the closest to the measured profile 10. Finally the displacement between the predicted inner diameter center O' after working and the designed inner diameter center O (i.e. eccentricity) is calculated as one of data on evaluation for the cam lobe.
