A method for producing a multilayer recording medium by forming two recording layers on a base material D while sandwiching a spacer layer. At the time of forming the spacer layer between a first recording layer and a second recording layer L1 counting from the incident direction of a laser beam, the base material D on which the recording layer L1 is formed is secured onto a turntable 12 by elastically deforming for chucking a rubber chuck 14 which can close the central fixing hole 1a of the base material D by elastically deforming at least in the radial direction. After dripping a coating liquid R for forming the spacer layer to the vicinity of boundary between the circumferential surface of the rubber chuck 14 and the base material D, a stamper 21 for forming the first recording layer is chucked by means of the rubber chuck 14 while covering the basic material D and spin coated with the coating liquid R by turning the turntable 12. A spacer layer of uniform film thickness can thereby be formed while preventing mixture of bubbles without increasing the manufacturing cost.
