GENES PARTICIPATING IN THE SYNTHESIS OF FATTY ACID HAVING trans-11-, cis-13- CONDJUGATED DOUBLE BOND AND UTILIZATION THEREOF

It is intended to clone a gene capable of synthesizing a fatty acid having a trans−11, cis−13−double bond from a fatty acid having a double bond at the &Dgr;12−position. Thus, genes having one of the following base sequences are provided:(A) base sequences encoding an amino acid represented by SEQ ID NO:1 or 12;(B) base sequences represented by SEQ ID NO:2 or 13;(C) base sequences derived from an amino acid sequence of the above (A)/a base sequence of the above (B) by deletion, addition or substitution of one or more amino acids/bases and encoding an amino acid sequence/a protein capable of synthesizing the above fatty acid; and (D) base sequences hybridizable with a base sequence of the above (B) or a sequence complementary therewith under stringent conditions and encoding a protein capable of synthesizing the above fatty acid.
