<p>Compound piston assembly (5) in a cylinder (2) of engine (1) has small diameter piston (8) engaging central bore (3) in cylinder head (4) mounted with the cylinder (2) and a large diameter piston (9) engaging cylinder (2). A swash plate (6), secured to drive shaft (7), engages large diameter piston (9). Two such engines (1) may be mounted in opposition, engaging opposite faces (21, 22) of the swash plate (6). Alternatively, compound piston assembly (5) is reciprocated in cylinder (2) by a crank (38) operated by a cam (36) on the drive shaft (34).</p> |
