ACTIVATED CARBON FIBER AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Activated carbon fibers excellent in both the ability to adsorptively remove trihalomethane compounds and the ability to adsorptively remove substances causative of a moldy odor. The fibers are characterized by giving at 77.4 K a nitrogen adsorption isotherm which satisfies all the following, provided that the nitrogen gas adsorption at a relative pressure of P/P0 is indicated by VP/P0: the value of V0.1 is 200 cc/g or higher, the value of V0.1/V0.2 is 0.92 to 0.99, the value of V0.2/V0.8 is 0.80 to 0.95, and the value of V0.8/V1.0 is 0.80 to 0.90.
