METHOD FOR DECOMPOSING HEAVY OIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decomposing heavy oil in the presence of hydrogen and in mild condition to obtain a useful light oil fraction such as naphtha, kerosene, in a high yield, by reducing the by-production of olefins, condensed aromatic compounds. SOLUTION: This method for decomposing the heavy oil is characterized by preliminarily oxidizing at least one part of the heavy oil and then decomposing the product in the presence of hydrogen preferably in the coexistence of a hydrogenation catalyst.
