PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gas barrier coating material having very superior properties when formed into a film on the surface of a molded product. SOLUTION: This gas barrier coating material comprises a composition obtained by the reaction of (I) an organic compound having a nitrogen atom bonded to an active hydrogen in the molecule, (II) an organic compound having a functional group capable of forming a chemical bond with the nitrogen atom by reacting with the above active hydrogen, and (III) an organosilicon compound represented by the formula: R<1> m Si(OR<2> )n (wherein R<1> is hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group which may have a functional group nonreactive with the above active hydrogen; R<2> is hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group; (m) is an integer of >=0; (n) is an integer of >=1; and m+n=4, and when (m) or (n) is >=2, R<1> and R<2> may be different from each other) and/or its hydrolysis condensate, and (IV) a polar polymeric compound, and (V) a solvent.
