PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball valve capable of improving the performance, quality and reliability by securing good holding posture of a ball and a spring while enhancing the assembly property, in the ball valve of an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: The structure of the ball valve, as a hydraulic control device of an automatic transmission, is equipped with: a control valve with a separating plate 3 between a first body 1 and a second body 2; an oil path 4 arranged at the first body 1; a drain oil path 5 arranged at the second body 2 and connected to the oil path 4; a valve hole 3a arranged on the separating plate 3 for communicating the oil path 4 and the drain oil path 5; and a ball valve A, with the valve hole 3a as its valve seat, incorporating a ball 7 energized by a spring 8 in a valve hall 6 arranged at the mating surface of the oil path 4. Equipped is a ball holder which holds the ball 7 energized by the spring 8 at a position protruding to the first body 1 side above the mating surface of the second body 2.
