PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical shaft single stage pump for reducing a pump maximum width without reducing pump efficiency while properly balancing radial directional thrust. SOLUTION: This vertical shaft single stage pump is provided with a spiral casing provided with a rotatable impeller, and having a discharge port, a first partition wall part extending up to the discharge port along an inner wall of the spiral casing from a position of 120 deg. in the rotative direction of the impeller from the winding starting end part of the spiral casing, and a second partition wall part extending to the discharge port along the inside of the first partition wall part from a position of 240 deg. in the rotative direction of the impeller from the winding starting end part of the spiral casing. The vertical shaft single stage pump is provided by forming a first passage between the inner wall of the spiral casing and one side of the first partition wall part, forming a second passage between the other side of the first partition wall part and one side of the second partition wall part, and forming a third passage between the other side of the second partition wall part and the inner wall of the spiral casing.
