A variation of BT's ClickDial service for users who are also users of the companion data sharing service, ClickData. When an originating user makes a ClickDial call, instead of sending in the MakeCall message the destination number associated with the displayed search entry, the user identity, e.g. email address, that was used for ClickData registration is sent. The CTI controller uses the received user identity to access the ClickData database, retrieve the stored internet protocol address from the found entry, use this retrieved internet protocol address to access the ClickDial database, retrieve the stored telephone number from the found entry, and use this retrieved telephone number as the destination number of the ClickDial call. This enables the originating user to contact the desired destination user at the telephone where he is currently logged on. The ClickData client in a user's computer automatically registers with the ClickData service at startup, so a positive response to an "Are you there"< message sent from the controller to the destination user's computer ensures that the call will be connected to that user's current location. |
