The decomposition (A2) of the digital video information of an image into blocks (11-14) of given geometry and size such that adjoining blocks overlap and determination and output of corresponding position and value information for the corner pixels for all blocks as support points (X). The support points for approximation of block contents by interpolation of the support points and reconstruction of the original video information by arrangement of the approximate block contents according to position information in a target raster. The invention also relates to a corresponding device and use of the method for archiving original image data.
