A photocell device having enhanced conversion efficiency. The device is adapted to convert light energy to electrical energy in a semiconductor layer (16) by converting a first, monochromatic light (12) to a second light (20) of different wavelength, in a fluorescent layer (18). The first light (12) is transmetted through ahot mirror layer (14) and is reflected from a mirror layer (24) disposed at a second surface of the device.
