PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen-absorbing alloy containing Mg and Ca as principal raw materials and capable of easily occluding large amounts of hydrogen even under conditions of actual use (ordinary temperature level). SOLUTION: The hydrogen-absorbing alloy is a multicomponent hydrogen- absorbing alloy containing, as a main phase, CaMg2 as a type C14 Laves phase and is represented by general formula Cax Mgy Niz or Cax Mgy Niz Aa (wherein, A is a rare-earth element, etc.; the symbols (x), (y), (z), and (a) satisfy 0<x<100, 0<y<100, 0<z<67 and 0<a<33, respectively; and z+y+z+a=100 and 2y>=z are satisfied) and has coexisting structures of two or more phases containing, other than the CaMg2 phase, an MgNi2 phase and/or an Mg2 Ni phase and an intermetallic-compound phase containing the element A.
