PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping device for a base isolation dwelling house, effective for a light building such as a detached house, capable of preventing impairing of base isolation effect of a base isolation system even when a large shearing force is applied to the building, and preventing a large displacement of the building. SOLUTION: This damping device 1 for a base isolation dwelling house is provided between a foundation 3 and a building 2 or a support base of the building 2. The device 1 has a hysteresis ratio h of 0.2<=h<=0.8 in deformation with breaking elongation of 90% in a tensile test at 25 deg.C for 500 mm/min. The device 1 has a spring constant k in a region of 10<=k<=300 (kgf/mm2) in a tensile test at 25 deg.C for 500 mm/min. The plastics as the raw material of the device 1 has a bending elastic modulus E at room temperature in the region of 1,000<=E<=5,000 (MPa), or the plastics as the raw material of the device 1 is polyamide, unsaturated polyester, etc.
