PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid-crystal composition enlarging the liquid crystal temperature, suppressing lowering of a tilt angle and realizing high-speed responsitivity at low temperatures, maintaining a bookshelf structure and a liquid-crystal element using the liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: This liquid-crystal composition comprises at least one kind of naphthalene compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R11 and R12 denote each an alkyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group or the like; Y11 denotes a single bond or O; X11 and X12 denote each H or a halogen atom; and Y12 denotes COO, CH2 CH2 , OCH2 or the like) and an optically inactive thidiazole compound represented by general formula (2) (wherein, Y21 denotes a single bond or O; and X21 and X22 denote each H or a halogen atom). The liquid crystal element is obtained by using the composition.
