The lifting platform for connection to a vehicle has a loading platform (14) and connector (16.1) with interposed articulated joint (18.1) having a first lifting swing bar (20.1) between connector and platform. This swing bar and associated first lifting cylinder (22.1) form a square articulated joint mechanism whilst a second similar mechanism is formed by a second lifting swing bar and second lifting cylinder. An incline cylinder (24) is attached to the first or second connector and to the loading platform. The first and second connectors are dimensioned so that the forces and moments which occur are introduced directly into the supporting structure (12) without the need for a supporting connection between these two connectors.
