Air intake for an engine

The ram jet or ram rocket engine has an air intake which is protected by a streamlined cover (1) until launch. A tensioned spring drive (11) pulls the cover aside. A second drive (8) opens the air duct to the top surface of the aircraft/missile. The cover is held in the open position by a rapid acting lock, operated by a pyrolytic charge.
