PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing a chip from intruding into a sensor for detecting the center position of a welding part in a device for friction stir welding. SOLUTION: A device 1a for friction stir welding has members 20 and 30 to be welded which are fixed on a table, and a work head 200 which is relatively moved in an arrow mark A direction with respect to the table. A rotary tool 10 applies the friction stir welding and forms a welding bead 50. A sensor 210 detects the edge parts 24 and 34 of the members by projecting a light beam 212, and the head 200 is moved to the center of the welding part and controlled. A burr-removing cutter 12 of the rotary tool 10 cuts out burrs and forms a chip 60. An air jet J jetted by an air nozzle is discharged from a cover 230 to the outside and prevents the chip 60 from intruding into the sensor 210.
