Method and computer system for identifying object suppliers in a computer network. A first computer (901) has a first cache (921-1) and a second computer (902) has a second cache (922-1). The first computer (901) receives (410) a request (190-1) for an object (190) and checks (420) the first cache (921-1) for a valid copy (190') of the object (190). If the first cache (921-1) has the valid copy (190'), the first computer answers (430) the request (190-1). If the first cache (921-1) does not have the valid copy (190'), the first computer (901) identifies (440) the second computer (902) as supplier of a further copy (190'') of the object (190) by using a predefined digest matrix (141) of the first computer (901).
