PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a backing roll for coating, by which the backing roll of a single-side coating machine is cleaned without sticking foreign matter to the backing roll and a flow clean doctor of the single-side coating machine so that the operability of the backing roll can be kept excellent. SOLUTION: The backing roll of the single-side coating machine is cleaned by pouring washing water into a doctor part for cleaning the backing roll. The washing water to be used contains limonene, a nonionic surfactant and a calcium chelating agent.
