A cork composition has a gelatin or synthetic resin binder substantially uniformly distributed over cork granules and includes a water-insoluble organic filler, e.g. asphalt, bitumen, a vinyl polymer or copolymer or other polyester, coal tar, or a coumarone indene resin. The composition may also include one or more plasticizer(s) such as the glycols, ester plasticizers, or drying or non-drying oils. In one example the composition comprises 100 parts by weight of cork granules, 40 parts phenol formaldehyde resin, 10 parts liquid paraffin, 5 parts triethylene glycol, 60 parts asphaltic hydrocarbon, 1/2 part para-toluene sulphuric acid, and 20 parts hydrocarbon solvent. In two other examples the composition includes phenol formaldehyde resin and bitumen emulsion, and gelatine glue and coal tar as binder and waterproof filler, respectively.
